KINGSPAN THERMOMAX

Thermomax products are manufactured and designed in Ireland, and are designed uniquely for Northern European and American climates. Thermomax products were the first to receive the European quality mark for solar collectors - the Solar Keymark.

What is a collector?

Each Thermomax collector consists of a highly insulated manifold and a row of tubes. The vacuum inside each tube provides perfect insulation, protecting the system from outside influences, such as cold and windy weather or high humidity. This vacuum insulation also ensures that the energy collected from the sun is very efficiently and effectively transferred into usable heat as there is minimal heat loss. To achieve maximum efficiency solar collectors have to face south. Thermomax allows for each tube to be turned 25° to attain maximum sun collection. If not, then an east-west system can be fitted.

Each system consists of:

  • Collector tubes - 30 tubes = 3m² which will heat sufficient water for 3 - 5 people. (20 tubes = 2m² which will heat sufficient water for 1 - 2 people).
  • Sloping Roof Kit with brackets
  • Cylinder - for domestic water - on the assumption that 50 L per person per day is required, then for 6 people a 300L twin coil cylinder would be required.
  • Dual Stream Pumping Station
  • SC100 Controller
  • Connection Kit
  • Flexi Connections
  • Manifold and Tube holders
  • Expansion Vessel - 18 L
  • Thermal Fluid Anti-freeze 20 L
  • Cooling Vessel (for DF100 only)

TYPES OF COLLECTOR TUBES:

There are three types of collector in the Thermomax system, and these are as follows:

1. HP100

The HP100 wet system is highly efficient with rapid heat transfer due to the heating fluid passing directly across the condenser. This collector is a “wet” heat pipe product. In this collector, the heat pipe is attached to the back of the absorber plate. Evaporator fluid is contained within the heat pipe. The energy absorbed by the absorber causes the fluid to change from a fluid state to a vapour state and the vapour rises to the condenser bulb. The condenser is connected directly into the HP100 manifold where the solar system solution is passed directly across the condenser. The condenser releases the latent heat of evaporation to the solar system solution and condenses, the condensate returns to the heat pipe and the cycle is repeated. 2. HP200

This collector is a “dry” heat pipe product. In this collector, the heat pipe is attached to the back of the absorber plate. Evaporator fluid is contained within the heat pipe. The energy absorbed by the absorber causes the fluid to change from a fluid state to a vapour state and the vapour rises to the condenser bulb. The condenser is connected directly into the manifold via a dry pocket. Within the manifold the solar system solution is passed across the dry pocket that houses the condenser. The condenser releases the latent heat of evaporation to the solar system solution and condenses, the condensate returns to the heat pipe and the cycle is repeated. Due to the dry connection the HP200 tubes can be replaced without the need of draining down the solar system. Click here for the specification sheet for the HP200 system.

 3. DF100

This collector is a direct flow type collector. The heat medium to be heated is passed down through the collector tube within a coaxial heat exchanger. This product can be installed on a pitched or horizontal surface, and the tube can be rotated 25° to compensate for installations that deviate from south. As this collector is a fully pumped unit there is no minimum angle of inclination for the collector. Click here for the specification sheet for the DF100 system.
