DE-ICING SALTWhat are they made from?De-icing salt is one of the first salts to come off the product line. Sea water is channelled into large pans or basins. The sun evaporates the water over a period of weeks, leaving salt in the basins. The salt is then taken from the basins in large pieces and goes through a washing and purifying process in the factory. It is subsequently dried in-house and crushed to the agreed particle size in accordance with the specification and packed. It has a slightly higher moisture than sea salt, and therefore it melts much quicker in snow and ice. The granule size of de-icing salt is larger than other salts, and therefor will de-ice a larger area and for longer. How is it used?Spread it on foot paths and drive ways to quickly melt away ice and snow. Also due to it's higher moisture it is more likely to melt away leaving very little residue, if any. So no gritty paths when the ice has melted!
